Why didn't the Zulu's get to the front of the wall, then get every soldier that was there to use their shields in tandem as mini catapults, throwing over each successive wave of Zulus as they came in (the one's that survived the rifle fire, of course). Seems like a good strategy to me. Better that trying to climb over the barricades one at a time and getting shot down one after the other.
All you hear, if you listen closely enough, is the non stop jibber-jabber of the Zulus outside during the entire scene. If that doesn't strike real fear into a mans heart, I don't what would.

This was not Zululand. The Zulus crossed the Buffalo River onto Natal to attack Rorkes Drift. The Zulus were also not indigenous to South Africa either. They were Bantu people from the north. The Zulus invaded what became Zululand and took it off others who were there before them.
Yeah Ryan the Zulus were not peaceful people. Or natives either. I recall that when the Zulus invaded it caused numerous local tribes to flee further south and east

I was just reading about this movie in Michael Caine's autobiography "The Elephant To Hollywood"...he almost didn't get cast, in fact he had such a heavy Cockney accent that the casting director decided he'd never do...luckily the bar that he and Caine met in was very long and the C.D. was sitting at one end, so when Caine was walking out in disgust the C.D. saw something officer-like in the posture he took (stiff backbone, striding pace) walking away he yelled after Caine "Can you do a posh accent?" Michael Caine turned around and replied "I can do any accent you want..."

If you go look it up only a couple British soldiers were killed with spears, and they were the ones who got mobbed or were too sick to fight back. Almost every British soldier killed died of a gunshot wound. There's no power like firepower

This movie very much happened in real life. And aside from the time 1800 British troops were attacked by 20,000 zulus, the British pretty resoundingly kicked their asses.
